Scary Bellevue Ave needs complete shoulders!

This 1/4 mile patch of Bellevue between Nova Rd and Clyde Morris Blvd could have been fixed that last time Bellevue Ave was re-paved about 4-5 years ago, sadly it was not.  Imagine taking the lane up this hill on a bicycle. The car behind you, eager to pass, cannot see the on-coming traffic due to the hill and the curve.  This is an accident waiting to happen.  Adding three 1/4 mile sections of shoulder (red and green paths in the right figure) would allow bicyclists to more safely travel along Bellevue and encourage cars to pass more safely.  Ample grass shoulders are available for this extension.  More details here.

Update: In 2006 a feasibility study was done for a trail along Bellevue Ave. It included a wide trail and a shifting of the road for $2 million. Simply adding complete shoulders or bike lanes will be less expensive. New feasibility study needed.
